Shakespeare’s classics are well and truly turned on their head as West End stars, the Reduced Shakespeare Company, bring their barnstormingly irreverent new production to Birmingham Repertory Theatre for the first time this February.

Following its world premiere season at the Edinburgh Festival, William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (Abridged) is a strange-yet-familiar tale as an ancient grudge pits Puck (from A Midsummer Night’s Dream) against Ariel (from The Tempest). Stories collide, as Dromio meets Juliet and Hamlet crosses paths with the manipulative Lady Macbeth. Expect mistaken identities, unsettled ghosts, magical spells, questionable potions, powerful tempests and devastating shipwrecks in this tour-de-force comedy, as seen through the eyes of three Americans wearing trainers.

William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (Abridged) runs Tuesday 14 – Wednesday 15 February at Birmingham Repertory Theatre
