As West End musicals seemed to take theatres by storm this summer, the Belgrade Theatre is putting on a different type of musical number this month as Peter Arnott’s Gripping WWII drama Propaganda Swing gets its UK premiere on the main stage.

Directed by the Belgrade’s own artistic director, Hamish Glen, Propaganda Swing is a captivating drama set against the backdrop of glitz, glamour and Big Band Swagger.

Throwing a spotlight on the gripping true story of ‘Charly and his Orchestra’, this compelling new play reveals the characters behind the story of how some of the greatest German jazz musicians of the day entered into a Faustian pact with the Fascists in order to continue playing their beloved music at the price of seeing it corrupted for evil.

The Nazis hated jazz – they saw it as decadent and impure. But one of them, Propaganda Ministry official, Karl “Charly” Schwedler, understood its true power. And he made it his mission to harness that power so the Nazis could use jazz as a weapon of war.

To celebrate the launch of Propaganda Swing, our friends at the Belgrade Theatre have given us a pair of tickets to give away for the performance on Tuesday 23rd September.

Fancy winning them? Then all you need to do is follow us over on Twitter at @brumpolarbears and re-tweet the tweet in this link.
