When it comes to Dungeons & Dragons, it’s not just the NPCs that have stories to tell – the monsters do too. Developed by over 100 authors from around the world, Uncaged is a collection of myth and folklore adventures for Dungeons & Dragons. The first edition of this stunning anthology features 25 original adventures, centring around female mythological creatures and monsters, including hags, harpies, medusas and much more. Uncaged takes these familiar legends and turns them on their head, allowing players to explore the origin stories and motivations of some of fantasy’s most dangerous females. We caught up with editor and creator of the anthology, Ashley Warren about how this project came about. “The project was initially inspired by the Monster Manual. I always personally gravitated toward the female creatures like gorgons, hags, harpies, etc. On Twitter, I shared the idea for an adventure collection that would retell the origin stories of these creatures, and the response was huge. “More than 100 people submitted, so the project expanded from one planned volume to a series of four. (And several spin-off projects in the works.) Although all of the adventures are about female creatures, not all of our contributors are women. We have a really diverse group of contributors of all genders, ages, and heritage. Our next volume is out in May.” The first volume of Uncaged contains 238 jam-packed pages and is available on DMs Guild, in print and PDF format. The remaining three editions are out later this year, with Volume 2 releasing in May 2019.
